MOBILE LIBRARY

In the summer of 2010, Sir Charles Hayward Children’s Library launched its Mobile Library Services to East Grand Bahama.  Every Saturday, with the use of a vehicle from the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the Librarian distributed Library books to all children from Gold Rock to McClean’s Town. After becoming a non-profit company in 2013, Mobile Library Services continued in partnership with Urban Renewal.  Since 2015, D’s Car Rental has offered transportation for the Mobile Library Services throughout the island.

Taking books and technology to the students is possible through grants from the Lyford Cay Foundation; donations from companies including Statoil, Sawyers Fresh Market, Kelly’s (Freeport), Abaco Markets, Bahamas Oil Refinery, PharmaChem, Polymers, the Grand Bahama Shipyard and the United States Embassy.  The Mobile Library, the annual Library Month field trip activities and the Summer Camp, have contributed greatly to the growth in membership at the Children’s Library.

Over the past three years Mobile Library Services have been extended to all Pre & Primary schools in West and East Grand Bahama as well as in the City of Freeport, and   membership has increased to almost two thousand.
